Ruby Dee Dies: Actress and Activist Dead at 91
Ruby Dee, the legendary actress and activist, has died.
She was 91.
A rep confirms that Dee died at her home in New Rochelle, New York, surrounded by family.
A pioneering black Hollywood star, Dee starred in movies like A Raisin in the Sun, American Gangster, Do The Right Thing and Jungle Fever.
Dee and her late husband, Ossie Davis, were also active in the civil rights movement.
She was honored with an Emmy, a Grammy, Kennedy Center Honors, a Screen Actors Guild lifetime achievement award, and the National Medal of Arts.
