Rosie Perez On “Humping” Female Friend: “I’m A Quasi-Straight Person”
Rosie Perez revealed during a speech on Monday at TrevorLIVE in New York that she had a brief relationship with a woman, and considers herself to be “quasi-straight.” Perez, who is currently a co-host on “The View,” recalled how she questioned her sexuality when she was a teenager. “Every human being, whether they want to admit it or not, went through a period of questioning,” said Perez, adding, “I know I did.”
The actress said she began wondering about her sexuality when she became friends with a girl named Michelle, whom all she wanted to do was “hump.” “I suppressed the urge and suppressed the urge and suppressed the urge until Michelle one day started humping on me,” said Perez to the audience, noting, “I’m not the only one that went through this questioning period. I’m not the only one that suppressed those feelings.”
But despite her brief fling with a woman, Perez said she’s not a lesbian, and apparently doesn’t use the term bisexual to describe herself either. “I’m a quasi-straight person,” she said. “I still went through that period. And I thought I was all alone.” The star, who is married to artist Eric Haze, said she never before opened up about her experience with Michelle because she remembers how hurt she was when the relationship and friendship ended. “That hurt kept me silent and that silence brought shame,” said Perez.
She went on, “I didn’t have a community. I didn’t have The Trevor Project.” Perez ended her speech by telling the crowd that “there’s no such thing as normal.” As Gossip Cop has reported, The Trevor Project is an organization that helps LGBT youth.
