Rose Siggins Dead: “American Horror Story” Star Dies At 43
Rose Siggins, who played Legless Suzi on “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” has died at 43. She passed away in a Denver hospital on Saturday after contracting a fatal infection following kidney stone surgery.
Siggins was born with Sacral Agenesis, a rare genetic disorder that left her legs and feet severely deformed. As a child, the decision was made to have both legs amputated above the knee, leaving her with what has been called “half a body.” Miraculously, Siggins later became the first known person with Sacral Agenesis to successfully carry a baby to term and give birth.
“American Horror Story” marked her acting debut. Prior to being cast on the series, Siggins’ story had been told on shows like “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not” and documentaries such as “Extraordinary People.” She appeared in 13 episodes of “AHS: Freak Show,” the last of which aired this past January.
A GoFundMe account was started Friday during Siggins’ hospitalization to help with medical costs. Now the funds will be used to care for her two children. In the 19 hours since the fundraiser began, $1,600 has been raised.
Sadly, this is the second tragedy the “American Horror Story” family has faced. As Gossip Cop reported, cast member Ben Woolf died earlier this year from a stroke caused by a head injury after he was hit by a car. The 34-year-old Woolf, who had pituitary dwarfism, was also on “Freak Show” with Siggins.
UPDATE: In response to Siggins’ death, co-star Angela Bassett tweeted, “@RoseSiggins Your life touched mine & made it’s lasting impression…Of love, grace, courage & beauty. God’s angels sing thee to thy rest.” Gabourey Sidibe wrote, “So sorry to hear of the passing of Rose Siggins. I pray for her children. Please donate if you can.” And Denis O’Hare posted, “Today we mourn Rose Siggins who died today. Please consider helping the two children she leaves behind.”
Sarah Paulson also said, “The AHS family lost one of our own… Rose Siggins was an absolute light… I will never forget your laugh or your beautiful eyes.” She went on, “Please consider helping to support her family at this difficult time. Two more spectacular children never existed.”
