Site Warns Kristen Stewart to Watch Out for Rooney Mara
6:18 pm, August 18th, 2010
What’s that we smell in the late summer breeze?
Is it vapid “analysis” mixed with juvenile passive-aggression?
Why, HollywoodLife must be near!
“Watch Your Back Kristen Stewart!! Rooney Mara Stole Your Part. Could She Steal Your Whole Career?” speculates a new headline.
Does HollywoodLife need a paper bag to get through this hyperventilation?
Stewart, explains the site, has been Hollywood’s “It” girl, “but she lost out to newcomer Rooney Mara for the next generation of book-to-screen-heroine, Lisbeth Salander.”
“And in the fickle world of fame it isn’t hard to envision a future where Rooney can use her leverage… to eclipse Kristen’s star power.”
Fame is indeed fickle, but it’s actually not clear at all how much interest Stewart ever had in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Last month, outlets with actual information had narrowed the field of potential Salanders down to Mara and three other actresses — none of whom was Stewart.
In fact, there was more Dragon Tattoo buzz in recent months about Ellen Page, Natalie Portman and Carey Mulligan.
Did Mara just ruin all of their careers, too?
Stewart and Mara “will obviously be competing for similar roles going forward,” says HollywoodLife. “They’re both talented young actresses of a certain age with the acting chops it takes to tackle difficult roles.”
The site consults an author who “has no doubt that Rooney could easily eclipse… Kristen’s fame.”
What allegedly makes Stewart’s career so vulnerable?
The biggest factor, apparently, is that Stewart is “already known for being a kind of curmudgeon, she tries to be unlikable despite her film’s popularity, whereas Rooney is much sweeter.”
HollywoodLife portrays Stewart as though she’s an eternal curmudgeon, but that doesn’t make it so. And the assertion that she “tries to be unlikable” is utterly bizarre.
Later the supposed expert adds, “If [Stewart] is arrogant enough to think she won’t be replaced in the hearts and minds of fans, tell her to call Hanson and ask how things are going.”
That was actually said.
Really.
Apparently, Stewart’s career mirrors that of 1990s pop act Hanson, and she now teeters on the edge of oblivion because Rooney Mara got a part in a movie over every single other young actress in Hollywood.
None of this makes any sense, of course, which is fitting since it runs on HollywoodLife.
Rooney Mara is a rising actress with a bright future and many roles ahead of her.
So is Stewart.
We wish HollywoodLife would stop trying to pit them against each other.
