There’s a new force at the box office, and its name is Rogue One. Get the details, and check out the Top 10 below!
As Gossip Cop has reported, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first highly-anticipated stand-alone film in the Star Wars franchise. Starring Felicity Jones as a new character named Jyn Erso, the movie revolves around the Rebels’ attempt to steal the plans for the Death Star. The well-reviewed project had its world premiere in Los Angeles last week, before officially opening in theaters on Friday.
In its debut weekend, Rogue One easily took the top box office spot with $155 million. Nothing else in the Top 10 even came remotely close. Moana, which held on to the number one spot for the last three weeks, slipped down to a distant second with a paltry $11.6 million. A mere $8.45 million in ticket sales put Office Christmas Party at number three. With $7 million, Will Smith’s new tearjerker, Collateral Beauty, ranked fourth. And Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them secured fifth place with $5 million.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Oscar frontrunners Manchester By The Sea and La La Land in sixth and seventh places with $4.15 million and $4 million, respectively. Meanwhile, Arrival nabbed eighth with $2.77 million, and Doctor Strange came in ninth with $2 million. Just making it into the final spot was Nocturnal Animals. It earned $1.4 million.
