Busting bad dish!

Roger Ebert Blames Ryan Dunn, Friends For Fatal Car Crash

Truth rating: 10

Ryan Dunn only passed away this morning, but at least one public figure is blasting the late star for the tragedy.

Roger Ebert was blunt in his reaction to the Jackass star’s fatal car crash in Pennsylvania, tweeting, “Friends don’t let jackasses drink and drive.”

No one condones drunk driving, of course, although Ebert’s comment strikes some observers as coming a little too soon.

While Dunn was indeed photographed drinking just hours before the crash, police did not mention alcohol in this morning’s report, although they noted that speed may have been a contributing factor.

Do you think Ebert’s response is fair? Insensitive?

Sound off below.

I don’t think this is directed at Ryan Dunn so much as to his friends that let him get in a car after he’d clearly been drinking. I don’t care if it risks your friendship there is no reason to ever let your friends get in a car if they’ve been drinking.

    Speeding is against the law.
Drinking and driving is against the law.
I would say someone is a jackass if they intentionally break the law.

The fact of the matter is alcohol has not been blamed for this accident, to blast the deceased for drinking and driving without actually knowing what happened is hurtful and insensitive. If the full report comes out and blames alcohol then your welcome to say you piece but until then STFU and show some respect for the family, they’re hurting enough right now without having careless accusations thrown around.

He posted pictures of himself drinking not a few hours before it happened. To think alcohol wasn’t involved is just a bit naive.

Besides, I don’t really think Ebert meant to be that mean about it. Dunn was on a show called Jackass, and his friends shouldn’t have let him drive in the state.

I think that was wrong and very heartless for him so say something like that when the autopsy has not came back yet and even if it does come back that he did have alchol in his system that’s still very rude and heartless his friends and family are grieving enough as it is. Robert ebert just proved how big of a jack ass he really is. Either way R.I.P. Ryan Dunn

Drinking any amount and speeding does not usually make a good combo.

  • Regina1180

You do realize that even a low limit of alcohol in your system is considered drunk driving, correct?

  • Kaitlyn

Drunk Driving is typically .08 or .10 depending where you are in the world. Smaller quanities impair driving ability signifcantly but for whatever reason they are legal. Accidents with alcohol will continue to happen if the laws remain the way that they are because people don’t stop until the law, rather than the lives of the innocent are at risk, sick but true!

  • Kaitlync

Insensitive, but true. There is no excuse for drunk driving. This is a terrible tragedy no doubt. We shouldn’t be making serious accusations until we know what happened. He may well have not been drunk. Speeding however was just dumb! The speed limits aren’t there because the government wants us to be bored, they are there to protect people from themselves and others on the roads.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_AIPLDCPJXVKOS53HF4FGGTT3AE AmyT

Who else would you blame? He was possibly impaired by alcohol and the police are saying speed was a factor. He made poor choices that resulted in his death. There is no one else to blame. It sucks. It is sad. People are left hurting from this but Ryan Dunn’s own selfish choices and lack of judgement are to blame. There is no excuse for drunk or reckless driving. Anyone who does either is saying that they don’t care about anyone not even themselves. I’m careful when I drive. Why? Because I want to get home safely to my family, or my family is with me and I want them to be safe AND because I respect other people who are on the road trying to get home safely to their families. Those aren’t just cars on the road. Those are PEOPLE. I have no tolerance for people who drink and drive or drive recklessly because they are showing off. I’m glad there were no other people involved.

Some people are trying to say that Ryan Dunn was a terrible person and that no one should say that he was a great person I think that is wrong. People who knew him said that he was a great guy. A lot of the negative talking people drink alcohol or once drank it or maybe they don’t. He made a BIG mistake and got on the road when he was drinking. Who are we to judge him. You don’t know what caused him to get on the road in that manner and have an accident. We got no investigated report yet and everybody is trying to judge him. Some of the nicest people I know drink, but they don’t drive or maybe they have, but they were lucky. How would you like for something like that to happen in your family? Would you say the mean things you are saying without any evidence of what really happened? Will we really know the exact truth? I have seen in personal stories where reporters or the news got a lot of facts all wrong.

For some people, even a small amount can hamper their driving abilities.

  • http://fuzzypinkslippers.com Janet Morris

If a relative of mine was driving drunk or was driving in a reckless manner, then I would probably be one of the first people to say something about how dumb they were being. Just because a person is dead doesn’t mean that we have to sugarcoat the truth about their choices.

  • http://fuzzypinkslippers.com Janet Morris

I think what Roger Ebert said was very fair and not really insensitive. This is a person who has a history of driving drunk. He was photographed drinking before this crash. I think if you put that together with the nature of the accident, then it looks like Roger Ebert is right. It looks like he was driving while intoxicated and that that led to the crash. We can’t expect people to sit back and keep their opinions to themselves about the causes behind the crash. This is something that everyone should feel the need to discuss.

  • One for the Record Books

Rest In Piece Ryan Dunn and Roger Ebert is an over opinionated idiot… And Porsche sucks I would never ever
own one.. In fact he probably wouldn’t have crashed at all if he wasn’t driving such a horribly handling car…

  • Nasoj007

I will concede that it is likely that he did have at least a drink but the fact remains that the police have not blamed alcohol for the crash. To slam the deceased for something that he may or may not have done without evidence is just causing undue pain to the families and friends.
I was in a bad car wreck a couple years ago (passenger) and I remember how everyone started posting on the story that drinking and driving will get you that(one guy claimed to see beer bottles in the car). NO ONE in the car had touched alcohol that day and there wasn’t any in the car and the whole situation was very hurtful us all. The media didn’t help buy sticking its ‘alcohol hasn’t been ruled out as a factor” line that they like to stick on every car crash story. It was the day after the accident, nothing had been ruled out as a cause. Flying monkeys had not been ruled out as a cause that doesn’t mean you need to state that. It’s another example of how our ‘news’ is rapidly turning into a pile of gossip shows and Springer ripoffs…

Please try to put yourself in the position of the survivors before you post, how would you feel reading this about you son/daughter/mother/father etc…

The fact is that you or anyone else don’t know the whole truth yet. This man talked too soon about a person who regardless of his drinking was a decent man. There are people all around us who make BIG mistakes like this. Some are lucky and some aren’t. Let’s issue some hard core facts here. As long as there are alcohol and cars, there will be people who will press their luck. Now tell the law to prohibit alcohol and cars, then you will have something on your hands. People will have a natural born fit, because even the politicians drink and they need a car. So that in itself will not stop people from drinking and driving… some but not all. We can only hope and pray that people get the message. I can compare that to stopping haters from hating. It’s in their blood. They press their luck.

  • Carrie

Very well said Janet. I am willing to bet alot of people who are trying to turn Ryan into an idol of sorts at this time would feel vastly different if he would have hit their mother, sister, father, brother or child with his speeding time bomb. This was a man who as far as I am concerned did stupid and DANGEROUS things for the camera for money and attention. Well, he did something stupid and dangerous…and he is getting alot of attention right now. I saw the picture of him, that was taken with a drink in his hand before the accident. The guy even looks intoxicated for petes sake! Am I sorry he died….you bet. I would not wish what happened to him on anyone, but people who drink and drive need to WISH THIS FOR THEMSELVES BEFORE they drink and drive. Not to mention everyone else who has the right to be on the road.

  • http://fuzzypinkslippers.com Janet Morris

You also don’t know the whole truth yet. Ebert may have spoken too quickly, but that doesn’t make what he said any less true. We shouldn’t scold him for what he says, even if it upsets others.
