Robin Williams Hanged Himself With Belt, Coroner Confirms
Robin Williams used a belt to hang himself in his home, the coroner confirmed on Tuesday.
He was discovered with superficial cuts on his wrists.
Williams had been “seeking treatment for depression,” authorities said.
He was last seen alive on Sunday night by his wife, who then went to bed, leaving the next morning believing Williams was asleep.
The star was discovered by his personal assistant, who became concerned when Williams failed to respond to knocks on the door.
He was found clothed, suspended in a seated position, with a belt around his neck.
The belt was wedged between the door and the door frame.
The preliminary cause of death is “asphyxia due to hanging.”
Toxicology will be conducted to determine if he had substances in his system at the time of death.
The official cause and manner of death will not be known for several weeks.
The coroner who works with the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday.
Williams was found dead at the age of 63 on Monday.
