Robert Pattinson: I’m Too Old for More Twilight Movies

Truth rating: 10

(GettyImages.com)

Robert Pattinson would be interested in seeing how The Twilight Saga could (potentially) continue after Breaking Dawn – but don’t expect him to reprise his role as Edward Cullen on the big screen.

“I’d be curious to see what [Stephenie Meyer] would write, but I just think I’d probably be too old by the time [they did it],” the actor told reporters on Friday in Berlin, where Pattinson was on hand for the world premiere of Bel Ami.

He added, “I’m already too old. But yeah, it’d be kind of interesting.”

His comments come after recent rumblings that the studio behind the blockbuster Twilight film franchise would develop a sixth movie should Meyer author a new book in the series.

Breaking Dawn Part 2, the fifth (and presumably final) film starring the Pattinson-Kristen Stewart-Taylor Lautner trio, opens in November.

Last month, Breaking Dawn Part 1 passed the $700 million mark globally.

The voice of reason. Good for him. I, too, would be curious to see what she would write. I would definitely read it — I love the franchise — but every story needs an ending and Bella got her happy ending. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the books and the movies but any more would just cheapen it to me.

Fans dont WANT another Twilight movie! Its just the selfish studio that wants to continue making cash! Shame on them!

  • http://twitter.com/aimzers84 Aimzers84

Fans DO want Midnight Sun finished though I should add!

  • Ahahha

    Twilight reboot?

  • Anonymous

There is no way Rob should be in whatever Lionsgate and Meyer come up with. They are going to milk this franchise dry trying to get every dime they can out of the loyal fans of the books and movies. What are we going to get now? A book about Jacob?! NO THANKS! The whole imprinting storyline is disturbing at best and they are crazy if they think they’ll get a fraction of the audience that Twilight had. There is no Twilight without Edward and Rob playing him.

  • D. Martin

I could not see that any more than I could see a Harry Potter reboot. Superman Returns came out like – what? – 10 – 15 years after the last movie? And Twilight and Harry Potter are not like Batman or Superman — where you can tell additional stories. Reboots are for films based on comic books — not stories that have actual endings.

  • D. Martin

I agree. This soon I could not see anyone other than Rob playing Edward and I doubt the fan base would embrace anyone playing the part. When he was first cast there was an uproar from fans thinking he could not be Edward because of how he was described in the book but he won everyone over. If they do a remake in 20 years thats one thing but not any time soon.

  • D. Martin

Now THAT I’d buy up in a minute! I would love to read the whole series from Edward’s POV — especially New Moon. The Cullens were very absent in that book and I would like to know about the conversation that took place after he took Bella home (after the party). Did they try to talk him out of leaving? Where did they all go? What did Edward do right after he left her in the forest? So many questions…

  • Jen

I would buy it in a heart beat too!! I would love to read about Edward’s point of view in Breaking Dawn. I would also like to read about what happens after the party in New Moon too. However I think to read his POV after he leaves her would be kind of boring and in a way depressing. BTW I’m not sure if it was in the movies, the book, or the guide but it says somewhere that the Cullens went up to Alaska when they left. Edward was tracking Victoria down south.

  • Anonymous

Another twilight movie could be made featuring a love story with Jacob and Reneesme. But not with Edward and Bella in it and therefore the audience wouldnt be that huge. I want to see Robert Pattinson in other movies now.

  • twifanbut…

    Smart man.

  • Mel

See, even he knows he’d be too old and already is. The studio should just let the series end like it’s supposed to. I do want the Midnight Sun book! I would definitely read that in a heartbeat. As for a reboot as someone suggested, no way. That’s like trying to repeat Harry Potter and Star Wars and expecting the same success. It’s kind of impossible to repeat, so things like that shouldn’t be done. Just like those series, I believe Twilight is one you shouldn’t mess with. That’s why I think there shouldn’t be spin off movies. I just don’t see it being successful if it were to focus on anything other than the romance between Edward and Bella. But that’s just my opinion.

  • Linda

Twilight has run its course. It has to end.

  • D. Martin

Yes, that’s what I got from the book too. Meyer has stated – I heard about this on another site – that it would be difficult for her to write New Moon from Edward’s POV because it would be too dark a place to go. I think there were a lot of people that were Team Jacob because of how he left her in New Moon (he was crueler in the book than in the movie) but if we knew what he went through then it might change some minds about that.

  • Crizomar

    how you like it?More,more, more.

  • AllThatGlittersisGold

Good for him! The story is over! Lionsgate is just being greedy! All of the cast (with only the exception of a few) are in their twenties, most in the later part. There is no way that they can continue to play 17/18 year olds!

Stephenie Meyer might write another book like she did with Bree Tanner, but the studio should know that it won’t make any money without Kristen and Rob. People come to see them. Stephenje should finish Midnight Sun before starting a new book!

  • VP

Rob always so polite, absurd question in the “Bel ami” press conference. Welcome Rob, goodbye Edward :)

  • ocd56

I definitely agree that any story without Edward and Bella would not be as successful. I go to see these movies basically to see Rob as Edward. I also agree that Rob would be too old to play Edward in the future. I would love to read a completed Midnight Sun!

  • Die-Hard Twi-Hard

She was in the process of writing another book “Midnight Sun”, which is “Twilight” but from Edward’s POV way before the first movie was ever in production. However, the first part of the manuscript was leaked in early editing stages & she had since left it alone. She did make the unfinished manuscript as it was available on her website.

  • Linda

You’re right. And a Jacob and Renesmee story would not be a box office success.

  • jae

I agree. Why are these people bringing up Twilight at a Bel Ami press conference.

  • Robsessed1986

Like many here, I am anxious to read Midnight Sun and I hope Stephanie Meyer finishes the book like she said she would. Right now, I think she is still trying to get over the betrayal of the close friend she gave the manuscript to, who turned around and put it on the internet. I have read the first several chapters after Stephanie posted them herself, and I really do like hearing the story from Edward’s POV. I would love to read Edward’s POV for the whole series.
Having said that, a Midnight Sun movieshould not happen. Rob doesn’t want to & really can’t, play a 17 year old anymore. Rob is moving on with his career and I support him in doing that whole-heartedly.
I am VERY anxious to see both Bel Ami and Cosmopolis, and I’m sure he will just blow me away with his brillant acting in both.
I am very proud of Rob and his many accomplishments thus far in his career, and can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next!!

  • Satine

ITA, in 20 yrs time, I would like to see it remade with more of the book in the film, like the blood tests in the biology class and other what I thought were important scenes missing from the book either due to what some of the directors said were deleted because of time constraints or pacing, whatever, the films were ok but never lived up to the books. As for the last book, hated it, other than the wedding and honeymoon, it was dismal especially the imprinting of Jacob. You could not pay me to see a story on Jacob or Renesme.

  • Val 5.

I’m really impatient that they(the critics and the large public) stop linking him to all this Twicrap and ridiculous character of Edward “the vampire who sparkles in the sun”, and finally he also taken seriously as an actor. but it will take some years for it, unfortunately.this saga is so shitty and appalling, that it will take long time to forgive him for his participation.

  • Anonymous

I agree with you. Not only would Rob be old…but so will the rest of the cast…especially the Cullens. They will not be able to pull off the teenager look.

  • Ssssssssssssssss

I love Twilight and I respect your opinion..but really where would Rob be without Twilight? Twilight put him on the map..he’s a global superstar now because of that. Pre-twilight..fans were outraged that he was cast as Edward…and now. So while you may hate Twilight you have to appreciate the opportunities it has provided him. Can’t really hate where he actually made his name and money. Because of Twilight and his fame was what gave Rob the opportunity to star in Cosmopolis as per what the director said. I’m a huge fan of Rob and hope he has a successful year with Bel Ami and Cosmopolis but I’d hate it if these stars from Twilight shoved Twilight out of their lives…it’s a part of them and basically what has made them a household name. As to the question about more Twilight movies…no thanks…it’s over…let it be over. And I agree with Rob.

  • Anonymous

    Agreed.

  • Anonymous

True. I think it will be a while yet until there are no more Twilight related questions. But they should just keep it to Bel Ami questions..since it’s Bel Ami they are promoting.

  • Anonymous

    Agreed.

  • Val 5.

Of course Twilight was a wonderful springboard for fame …. but now it has become a burden. I hope that Cosmopolis will change the way people see Rob and he will finally taken seriously. The only problem is that I hope the release of Cosmopolis will not be polluted by the release of DB2 and its attendant hysteria accompanying.

Twilight is not the problem, it’s Rob’s psycho nonsten hags that make him look bad. Critics are just like us, and see ALL the same bullshit of Rob being a bar hopping, drunk, asshole all thanks to the nonstens that start these stories. While Kristen was in London working her ass off on SWATH, the nonstens and trolls were posting all their stories of Rob sightings in bars, hooking up with random women, being drunk, etc…. In the nonstens quest to hurt and humiliate Kristen all they did was hurt the public’s perception of Rob. Just like them talking about Rob’s ass crack in Bel-Ami instead of his acting. His own fucked up fandom is destroying his reputation and career. Kristen has always been Rob’s biggest supporter and proud of his non Twilight projects. Hope you nonstens are happy because if your goal was to make Rob look like a bar hopping cheating drunk, and a liar you succeeded. So don’t you dare blame Kristen, or the Twi saga for how Rob is being perceived. This one is all on you nonstens. Rob is a wonderful person, and actor and did nothing to deserve the backlash caused by his own fans.

  • Olivia

This is a prime example of why Rob is not taken seriously. Read what one his nonsten hags has to say in her daily Kristen bashing.

lol. but Rob still so young for kristen :D

  • Val 5.

Please, do not tell me about this stuff, nonsten, yesten, robsten or kristen, it does not interest me, I’m here just for Rob and his career, period.

  • D. Martin

I agree with you here. The biology scene was important and I’m a little perplexed as to WHY Meyer dropped a very important clue to the last book here. Bella revealed she could SMELL blood. That’s what made her sick. It was picked up in the graphic novels but never mentioned again. And in the final book Carlisle reckoned that the reason Bella did so well with everything was because he thought this may have been her destiny all along. I thought the fact that she could smell blood should have been mentioned again.

  • D. Martin

Yes. I’ve read that. It’s a good read too! Fills in a lot of details and – had she finished the book – would have been much longer. This was because Edward can hear everyone’s thoughts – you get what everyone else is thinking too. It reveals how much the other boys liked Bella — especially Mike. I also enjoyed the scene – right after he saves Bella from the van — where he goes home and they talk about whether they should leave or not — and Alice points out that he’s already too far gone to leave her.

  • Lisa

    yep so right

  • Linda

Unfortunately I think the Twilight label is going to follow Rob for a few years and some critics are going to look down on him as a result. It should be interesting to see what they say about Cosmopolis since David Cronenberg is a respected director and he is totally in Rob’s corner and says Rob has a huge talent.

  • Linda

Please, no one wants to read this crap. Take it back to Ted C.’s board.

  • Elena

Simply cannot wait for the last Twi movie to come out and the whole thing to be over with. Rob’s fans have already moved on, it’s time the media did too. I’d much rather see Rob as Georges in Bel Ami or Eric in Cosmopolis. This is going to be a great year for Rob, and he looked fantastic at the premiere in Berlin, surrounded by the beautiful Holly and Christina.

I was so glad the premiere went off without a hitch or any distractions. The focus was on Rob and his film, as it should be. His family was adorable, too, so supportive and gorgeous.

  • Olivia

I am a Rob fan, and it is my god given right and freedom to express my opinion, and maybe if Rob had more fans that would set the crazy ass fans (nonstens) straight they would quit making him look the way they are. Have you not looked at the Bel-Ami reviews?? Christina, Holly and Uma are recieving the praise while Rob is being called wooden, expressionless, and they said he gave more of an effort smashing a cockroach in a scene in the movie than he did relating to the other actors. Like I said the critics see the same bs on the internet we do, and like it or not it does make a difference in how they will perceive Rob and his acting abilities. I can’t imagine what critics and others in the industry think when they read fans reviews that consist of idiotic comments about Rob’s ass crack and their exploding ovaries. Say what you want about Kristen fans but at least they stand up for her…..

  • slg

I believe the movies should end as the books were written. I would love to see Stephanie write and continue writing about the saga. I would love to read more, especially stories written from Edward’s POV and the story of Jacob and Nessie. I think there is still a lot of material that could be covered in the saga. However, without Rob or Kristen, I wouldn’t want to see these books turned into movies. They won’t be the blockbusters that they are now. We as fans appreciate the storytelling of Stephanie, where as, the studios want to drain this franchise dry!

  • http://www.facebook.com/despoina.paschou Despoina Paschou

In other words: Fuck this shit, finally an excuse to escape this public humiliation and become a proper actor.

  • jae

I totally agree with you on this one, I do believe I hear Ted screaming her name. This is so not about that at all.

  • Whatever

If Rob had not done Twilight we would not be talking about him right now. How long does it take to become a proper actor? He’s done 3 other movies that were non Twilight so can he blame those too??

  • Anonymous

Rob is ready to move on and I don’t blame him, so glad he is moving on to bigger and better things. Damn he looks so hot in this picture btw his short crop is growing on me, can see those beautiful eyes more clearly.

Btw, other regulars its me Emma1990, had to change my disque profile. Instead just put Rob’s birth year instead of Kristens

  • Robsessed1986

I believe Rob’s BIGGEST supporters are his parents and sisters.

You say you’re a Rob fan, but you really don’t sound like one. You brought something up that no one was talking about and that has absolutely nothing to do with this story, in my opinion. Yes, you are entitled to speak your opinion, and now everyone else will tell you what they think of that opinion. It goes with the territory.

If the critics are stupid enough to be judging an actor’s movie based on their fans and not the movie and acting itself, then they need to get a different job. The problem with A LOT of the reviews I saw was that they are stuck on Twilight and not moving foward. Rob is moving foward, and so are his most loyal fans. The way a lot of us are thinking right now is that unless a critic can review Rob’s movies without calling him RPatzz and mentioning Twilight, we will choose not to pay any mind to their review.

  • Robsessed1986

That’s a strange comment because Rob is a few years older than KS. He will be 26 in May.

  • Robsessed1986

That’s what my 1986 is too!

  • Robsessed1986

Stop trying to turn this into something it is not. If you are truly Rob’s fan, let him enjoy this time and be proud of him. There’s no need to turn this into another battle between the nons, and stens.

  • kikay

Whatever Rob decided to do after BD2 re: Twilight, for sure we his true fans will always support him in his decision,we might be saying now we had enough of twilight but if he decided to do another one i’m sure our ass will be the first one itching to see it.Anyhow,i’m so glad Rob had his own moment with his co star in Berlin festival without any drama,so glad to see his family enjoying his success as well. But he’s back in LA now ,he wasn’t kidding when he say “what if the love of your life is your family?”He can’t wait another day to be with Kristen,i thought he’s going straight to London to be with his family,as he say in Berlin’s interview he hardly see them anymore,i guessed his definition of family change 3 years ago, what a sweet guy Rob turn out to be,epic aaaaawwwww!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/despoina.paschou Despoina Paschou

Nope, the movies he did outside of Twilight gave a glimpse of real talent. What I say is that it is blatantly obvious that apart from the fame and the money, he has no other reason to do the Twilight films and he is far from enjoying being associated with them right now.

  • me, myself and I

I hope Rob doesnt sign up for this!!! He needs to move on.

  • jay

I refuse to read any review that, in the first paragraph, says anything about Twilight, Edward, brooding or sparkly vampires. These are probably the same critics who bashed :Remember Me” and “Water for Elephants” which I loved.

It is probably going to take a while to get the albatross that is Twilight from around his neck, but it will happen. Leonardo DiCaprio went through the same thing after “Titanic” and the critics love him now.

  • Anonymous

    Dear God,
grant that Stephenie Meyer finished writing Midnight Sun, please, please.
    Amen.

  • mlj (Team Pea Coat)

Would love for her to finish MS!

  • Chloelani

I’m going to be completely honest; despite everything you all have e been writing I still love all the twilight movies and would watch all of the following ones that might come out (most likely not oviusly)
I guess i’m the one who’s not ready to move on but I still can’t wait to watch all his upcomming movies

  • Anonymous

Someday in the future If there is another Twilight movie like several years from now, I can see Rob and Kristen doing a cameo in the film. Say attending the wedding of Renesmee or whatever. I dont think the fans would mind. Might be interesting to see them together again and compare them now to the original Twilight film. If that were to happen both Rob and Kristen would be paid many millions of dollars to do it.

  • aquarius64

You got that right. There’s too much of an “ick” factor.

  • Sadie

I so agree with your statement, Robert Pattinson playing Edward Cullen made the “Twilight” series. Without Robert, it would never have been so successful.
It is now time to move on with new projects for everyone concerned. Robert Pattinson is trying his best to do just that.

  • Sadie

I would like for Midnight Sun to be complete too, but just for a good read, no movie though. I really enjoy the books.

  • Nipples like hubcaps

    @SATINE,
In 20 years’ time you’ll still be watching this teenaged shyte??? Damn, get a life! This stuff is kiddie stuff to begin with. You’re telling me you’ll be sitting back watching this in 20 years. Plus a story you already know the ending to- a childish, happily ever after ending where the vampire sits in his cottage with Bella Swan, rocking their baby that shouldn’t even exist.

Also, while I’m on topic, I thought it was strange, too, that aside from a vampire getting married, didn’t he recite some marriage vows that come from the holy bible? Nobody cares but that shakes the very core of what makes a vampire a vampire (and there is no re-writing that): they were cursed by God because they turned their backs on the church. Edward is just not a vampire. Period. He’s just some weird guy who runs around drinking animal blood & does not age. I’m not a hater, I just like for things to make at least a bit of logical sense somewhere, even in fiction.

I know right but it should show us what happens with Jacob and Reneesme, and to see what the voltur is going to do with Bella. I just hatted the way the book ended. I just hop there will be a another book!
