Robert Pattinson “Disses” Twilight?

“Robert Pattinson ‘Disses’ Twilight In New Interview,” claims HollywoodLife, perhaps the only site clueless and classless enough to print such outright b.s. about the actor it milks for most of its business.
The webloid, which has become a cesspool of sensationalism masquerading as a “news” outlet, is very big on the word “diss” these days, using it to inflame controversy its writers are eager to invent because they’d rather not dirty themselves with the work of actual reporting.
In any case, Pattinson is currently doing press rounds for Cosmopolis, meaning HollywoodLife has lots of new material to willfully misinterpret.
“Breaking Dawn — Part 2 has yet to hit theaters, but Robert Pattinson is wasting no time dissing the franchise that made him a household name,” declares the site, accusing the actor of “biting the hand that fed him.”
What was Pattinson’s alleged “diss”?
Well, according to HollywoodLife, during his recent sit-down with The New York Times, Pattinson said that since Twilight opened, he has “had four years of gradually being put more and more into smaller and smaller boxes, and you have a desire to break out.”
A couple of things.
First, he actually didn’t say that during the Times discussion — it was during a separate meeting with reporters, but why bother checking facts?
More importantly, Pattinson’s remark had NOTHING to do with “dissing” the Twilight franchise.
He wants to play characters beyond the one he’s played in five films — a sentiment expressed by every actor in his position.
He’s not “biting” the hand that fed him, bashing Twilight, or insulting its fans.
HollywoodLife is — by treating its readers like idiots.
Pattinson is merely saying, as he’s said a dozen different ways while doing interviews for Cosmopolis (and, for that matter, non-Twilight films like Water for Elephants and Bel Ami) that he’s excited to broaden both his horizons as an actor and an audience’s expectations of what he can bring to a performance.
He has repeatedly said that the Cullen experience has been positive, and that he recognizes that his opportunities have been aided by the Twilight phenomenon.
When Pattinson is talking enthusiastically about Breaking Dawn — Part 2 come October and November, HollywoodLife will pretend it never published this bogus “diss” piece, instead turning whatever innocuous thing Pattinson says then into a new phony controversy.
