Robert De Niro Talks Donald Trump, ‘Bronx Tale’ Musical On ‘Today Show’ (VIDEO)
When asked by “Today” co-anchor Matt Lauer if those boycotting the president-elect’s inauguration on Friday are making the right decision, De Niro said, “Yeah, I think they are. I think whatever people do they should do it fully, because there’s a lot of crazy stuff happening now. It’s just crazy and maybe it’s an act and we’ll see once he’s in. But everybody has to be on guard.”
Lauer went on to ask if those citizens protesting Trump’s inauguration should also “support democracy and the office,” to which De Niro answered, “Of course.” The actor added, “Are you saying, ‘Do you believe what you see or do you believe what I tell you?’ That old joke. And we’ve been seeing a lot what we see… so that’s disturbing to me.”
De Niro was joined on the morning talk show by Chazz Palminteri, who wrote the new Bronx Tale musical, as well as the original 1993 film on which it’s based. “I think that’s why Bronx Tale resonates so much right now,” he offered. “What Bronx Tale talks about is how people can come together. One of the main aspects of the play is is it better to choose love or fear?” Watch the full interview below.
