Rob Lowe in Talks to Co-Host “Live” with Kelly Ripa

After sitting in as a guest co-host on “Live with Kelly Ripa,” Rob Lowe has been approached by ABC to possibly replace Regis Philbin, who left the hit morning show in November.

Gossip Cop is told ABC is already in talks with Lowe’s people after the actor proved to be “a natural — really great,” says a network insider.

A source close to the actor confirms to us, “His agents are dealing with it.”

Of course, Lowe is already on the NBC show “Parks & Recreation,” so he’d have to leave the West Coast-based show to do the morning program out of New York.

Reps for Lowe and “Live” would not comment.

    I would love it. usually I tape the show and watch it later in day.But I got up early today to watch it live because he wa so great the 1st day

    Don’t think they would work. Rob is prettier than Kelly. I find myself turning the channel halfway through the show. It’s just not the same without Regis. He kept the show on track with the reading of things in the news. Kelly talks and talks about her. Kinda of boring now.

    Jane I agree with you. It’s not the same without Regis. I miss him. I like Kelly but she can be very annoying. Regis made me laugh.

    I don’t know if Rob is strong enough mentally to deal with Ripa on a daily basis. I know Regis left for contract reasons but I also think Kelly drove him out, he couldn’t take her stupid antics all of the time. Regis didn’t care about Jersey Shore or The Bachelor…time to grow up Kelly and start talking about grown up things now..you are annoying and thanks for driving the show into the ground, something Regis worked hard to legitimize for many years.

    Rob is about the same age of Regis so he may be a match for the show, but I do think the show really needs someone New York.

    I think the only way it will work is when Parks & Recreation is on hiatus, but other than that I doubt it would work.

    No, I don’t think the banter is entertaining with those two. Who wants to listen to them tell each other how pretty they are for an hour every morning. My vote would be for Mike Rowe, give us a manly man. I thought the show was very boring when Lowe was there. Since when did Gelman get so much camera time? Not a good fit. If they don’t do something soon, they are going to lose their audience. Kelly is just not a personality strong enough to carry the show. And for goodness sake, don’t use her husband.Bad idea!

    Jerry S., now he is a natural. And yes, Kelly is all about Kelly…Personally I am very tired
    of her, ugh.

    Rob Lowe is the first guest host to be so natural, no nervous tics like many do, which makes me nervous watching them. would love watching this pretty boy every morning. Please keep him there, im really getting bored with the show now.

    Ok so Kelly Ripa is attractive & capable, BUT……. She is extremely annoying, self absorbed (camera hog, conversation hog, etc…). She seems to make light with sucking in her cheeks and the constant looking at herself in the camera. I can’t stand it. Honestly, she’s not joking she means it. Sure that Neil & Rob would be great choices, but whoever is chosen has to be matched up with Kelly. This will be problematic. Plain and simple she needs to knock off the annoying behavior, or take a hike. Poor thing looks like like she has a 10-12 year old body with a big head, you know like a bobble head. Kelly go eat and put on a few lbs & ABC catch a clue!!!!!!!

    I could not possibly agree more. Kelly was fine as Regis’ sidekick because Regis could control Kelly’s endless self promotion. No so for anyone else who has co-hosted so far. I am just plain tired of hearing one personal story after another without any acknowledgement that there is a world out there. Good by Live!, I’ve turned you off.

    Regis was great, and Kelly is great. They were an ideal team in their time. Regis also often revealed a nasty unpleasant side. Kelly has stepped up to the plate splendidly. She is multifaceted. Yes she needs a cohost because it is a terrific burden to carry the show, interact with new personalities repeatedly. She is a winner, and all the negative comments are just plain mean. Go Kelly, go. It is your time to shine, and you have earned it.
