Rob Lowe Defends Ann Coulter Roast Jokes
Rob Lowe was the subject of Monday’s “Comedy Central Roast,” but it was Ann Coulter who took the worst hits. Now Lowe is defending the brutal jokes.
As Gossip Cop reported, Lowe was the latest celebrity to be roasted by a group of fellow stars. But as has become the norm, those participating also roasted each other. And not only was Coulter particularly targeted with harsh cracks, but her own quips seemed to fall flat. In one instance, Jimmy Carr even said, “Ann is one of the most repugnant, hateful, hatchet-face bitches alive. It’s not too late to change, Ann. You could kill yourself.”
And Lowe himself made comments like, “Everyone is asking, why is Ann Coulter here tonight? Because the right-to-lifers wanted everyone to see what abortion looks like up close.” So, did the event go too far? No way, says Lowe.
On Tuesday, hours after the broadcast, Comedy Central tweeted, “Hard to say who roasted Ann Coulter best, but @RobLowe definitely roasted her most handsomely.” In reply, Lowe tweeted a defense, writing, “Roasts are like the #NFL. Hard hits are part of the game. #SuitUp #Loweroast.” In other words, the actor believes Coulter should have known what she was signing up for and should have expected to get mightily burned.
After all, he did. With another tweet commending Lowe for taking the roast jabs “like a champ,” he responded, “They were all SO funny (and mean). But I give no sh*ts.” It’s doubtful, though, that Coulter feels the same way.
