Rob Kardashian Asked About Transgender Women In Miss USA Pageant Years Before Caitlyn Jenner Came Out (VIDEO)
As Gossip Cop reported at the time, Kardashian was one of the celebrity judges for the 2012 Miss USA pageant. In the final round, the remaining contestants participated in a Q&A, in which each was asked a question crafted by one of the judges. When it was Culpo’s turn, however, the then-Miss Rhode Island selected the competition’s only Twitter question, where she had to answer a query sent in via social media.
Kardashian was selected to read the question, and said, “There were a lot of questions that came in on this subject, and we chose this one.” He went on to ask Culpo, “Would you feel it would be fair that a transgender woman wins the Miss USA title over a natural-born woman?” As she hesitated, Kardashian reiterated that it was a question from Twitter.
After thinking for a few moments, Cuplo answered, “I do think that that would be fair, but I can understand that people would be a little apprehensive to take that road, because there is a tradition of natural-born women, but today, where there’s so many surgeries and so many people who have a need to change for a happier life, I do accept that, because I believe it’s a free country.” The response was met by cheers, and Culpo was named Miss USA shortly after.
The clip has resurfaced in the wake of Jenner revealing earlier this week that she is now going by Caitlyn as she transitions from male to female. Kardashian, who has shunned the spotlight over the past year as he deals with his own issues, has not spoken publicly about Jenner coming out. Earlier this week, however, sister Kim revealed that when he first saw Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover, he had no idea it was Jenner.
“Who is this woman and why do I care?” Kardashian asked Kim after she sent him the cover photo. When she explained, Kim told “Access Hollywood,” her brother “was like, ‘Oh my God, she’s beautiful!’ Then he called her and they had a love fest.”
