Rob Ford Pulls Out Of Toronto Mayor Race
Rob Ford has pulled out of the Toronto mayoral race, it was announced on Friday.
The controversial crack-smoking mayor was pursuing reelection in October amid concerns about his competence and health.
His brother, Doug Ford, will replace him as a candidate.
It was announced on Thursday that Rob Ford has a “fair size” mass in his abdomen; the politician had been hospitalized on Wednesday with stomach pain.
While it has not been determined whether Ford’s growth is cancerous, it appeared as though any surgical treatment would require him to leave the campaign trail for a significant period of time during a closely contested race.
Ford trailed opponent John Tory in recent polls.
