Niall Horan paid tribute to six-year-old Leah Hession on Friday after the young One Direction fan died following a battle with kidney cancer.
“RIP Leah, it was an honour to have met you! Very brave young lady! Thoughts are with Leah’s family at this time!” tweeted the singer, whose social media power led #RIPLeah to become a top Twitter trending topic worldwide within minutes.
He then posted one of the pictures (see right and below) that was taken in May when Horan surprised Hession and her family with a private meet-and-greet at One Direction’s Dublin concert.
Horan’s time with the little girl came just days after she’d finished grueling radiotherapy treatment that prevented her from walking.
On Friday, the Aoibheann’s Pink Tie charity organization, which helped arrange the meeting, wrote on Facebook, “To watch parents smile and act normal in the face of the worst nightmare that could be unleashed upon a mother or father, is heart breaking inspiring and truly a humbling experience.”
“Leah gave me a huge hug the day she meet her heroes 1 D in Croke Park,” said the person behind the charity’s statement. “I will always treasure that hug and the memories of her beautiful smile.”
