“Way To Go, Rima Fakih! You’re The First Arab-American To Win Miss USA!” exclaims HollywoodLife.

Way To Go, HollywoodLife! You’re Wrong Again!

The smoky-eyed site reports, “The sexy Miss Michigan made history last night!”

How so?

According to HollywoodLife, Fakih is “the first Arab-American to ever compete in (and win) the pageant in its entire 59-year history.”

The first ever to compete in the pageant?

And win?

Yes, the same site that reported Justin Bieber is going to a public high school in California (wrong) and Robert Pattinson is quitting acting (wrong) is once again…

Wait for it…

Wait for it…

WRONG.

Julie Hayek, who won back in 1983, was the first Miss USA winner of Arab-American descent.

It’s certainly not a first mistake for HollywoodLife.

A lot of sites made the same mistake. A lot of sites reported at first that she was the first arab American to win. Even legitimate sites because pageant officials said that their records for the pageant going back to 1952 when the pageant first started were not complete. From CBS news:

“Pageant officials said historical pageant records were not detailed enough to show whether Fakih was the first Arab American, Muslim or immigrant to win the Miss USA title. The pageant started in 1952 as a local bathing suit competition in Long Beach, Calif. ”
