Rihanna “Honored” To Score Coveted Vogue Met Gala Edition Cover (PHOTOS)
Rihanna topped many a best-dressed lists after last week’s Met Gala, but the biggest honor came on Tuesday, when Vogue revealed the star was selected to be the on the coveted cover of its special Met Ball edition. See right and below.
Rihanna unveiled the new special issue, now in its third year, on Instagram, writing, “WOW!!! I am very honored to have this image selected for the new cover of @voguemagazine!!” The performer added the hashtags, “#metgala2015 #art #fashion #Vogue.”
And what a piece of art it was. As Gossip Cop reported, Rihanna wowed at the Vogue-hosted the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala in New York City when she made a grand entrance in a stunning gown designed by Chinese haute couture designer Guo Pei for the evening’s “China: Through The Looking Glass” theme. The extravagant yellow dress, which featured a huge, fur-trimmed cape, was from the designer’s 2012 collection, and weighed in at about 55 pounds. Not surprisingly, Rihanna needed help from multiple people to make it up the museum’s steps.
The gorgeous dress took a whopping two years to create, and yet that’s probably a fraction of the time people will obsess over it, as it’s likely to go down as one of the best Met Gala dresses of all time. In the last week alone, the gown has dominated conversation in fashion circles, and inspired countless memes, including an adorable video Rihanna posted of a dog wearing a furry yellow coat on a faux red carpet as the singer’s “Bitch Better Have My Money” plays in the background.
In the days since, Rihanna has shared a number of sketches of the one-in-a-kind dress, some created by fans, that are nearly as beautiful as the real thing. Check out the photos below!
