Rihanna Suddenly Too Sexy for Nivea, Fires Back at Company’s New Boss

(Nivea)

Rihanna has been deemed too sexy for Nivea.

The singer, who appeared in advertisements for the skin care brand last year (see right) and was sponsored by the company on tour, apparently has an image at odds with what Nivea’s parent company Beiersdorf’s incoming CEO Stefan Heidenreich now wants to project.

Heidenreich is quoted in German newspaper Welt as saying the campaign starring Rihanna should have been a “no go.”

“I do not understand how to bring the core brand of Nivea in conjunction with Rihanna. Nivea is a company which stands for trust, family and reliability,” said the new boss.

The company had no such qualms about partnering with Rihanna in the first place, at the time expressing excitement about the “global music sensation” joining Nivea.

But obviously things changed with Heidenreich’s arrival.

In any case, Rihanna struck back — as she so often does — on Twitter.

The sharp-tongued performer held back on commentary, instead tweeting a photo of Heidenreich (BELOW) and the words: “No caption necessary.”

Ouch.

too black I think … German like most Euros don’t see Africans as being sexy ..

  • Prettyinpink

    Or too immature?

  • Xedos

Madonna use to do worst. gaga walk through airport and on the street in her draws and its not a problem, but it a black female do the same or anything close . she’s call all kind of names. he’s german nuf said.

she doesn’t match with the image of values important for nivea and that’s it; it’s a business, it’s public relations, think about it and maybe hesitate next time before writing some racist comments.
ps: I think he finds her too sexy for this job;)

  • Sookie

She has been dressing like a mega slut lately. Every time she goes out she is in something see-through. Although she is beautiful and very talented I can see why a company might be hesitant to have her represent them due to her current fashion choices.

    Too trashy…..that’s universal.

  • Crossmanlevi

Well done Rihanna angel. Like my mom used to say, kill them with class. I believe that’s what my Ri did. That’s why she licks the gun after she’s done.Revenge IS sweet.

  • Regina1180

And that’s why neither Madonna or GaGa were even approached for this.

She can’t be all “thug life” and trashy one day and surprised when she’s dropped or criticized another.

If it was about race then she would have never gotten endorsed by them in the first place. It’s not about race, it’s about her not fitting the brand so she was dropped. It happens more often than you want to believe & to other races as well.
I agree with Regina1180, that’s exactly why neither of them were endorsed by Nivea.

Class…Rihanna…..hmmm, not sure those two words belong in the same paragraph.

  • Lori

    My thoughts exactly!

  • That’s not very professional of the CEO though, either. Way to show your own true values, sir! This saddens me because Nivea actually gave me the opportunity to meet Rihanna last summer, of whom I was indifferent toward (musically & personally). After seeing her live and meeting her post-show, my whole perspective changed. She was one of the sweetest celebs I’ve met and my job had me meeting plenty. She was humble and preferred giving comments to accepting them. The “new” Nivea will not have my support, for showing hypocrisy to their own values. If you can’t trust a company that hired you and then changes their views just because one new person comes in, then no one can.

New Nivea? Not sure if they changed but I know Rihanna went from fun to thug…if I were selling a mainstream product I’d dump her too. Her actions led to this….I think the CEO has balls enough to call her out on it rather than just letting her behavior reflect bad through endorsements/advertisements. Let this “thug” own up to her actions…..after all she is a tough girl and all.

  • Lalala

Right away the blacks play the race card..again! Isn’t that time getting old yet?

  • Anonymous

The blacks? Speaking for all of the “blacks” is she? No…she and some of her thug supporters are playing the race card.

  • HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE

Advise to Rihanna: if you dress like a skank, behave like a vulgar gutter skank- don’t be surprised to be treated as one! And now if this is true, its time for me to go back to Nivea products.

  • HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE

You need to define what the word “classy” means. PS. Your girl, Rihanna is actually the opposite of classy.

  • ri

@Dre, thank you, true dat..true dat

  • Crucio Morsmordre

That and the fact that there are always pictures of her boozing up or under the influence of drugs coming out and her continuing to hang out with a guy who beat her. She is far from Nivea’s values. I do enjoy her music, but not what she represents at all.

  • Claire

I agree with you to a point; this was a bad decision by the new CEO. Where are the Nivea lawyers? They should have strongly advised him not to put a negative spin on this by throwing in a little sensitivity. His comment was innappropriate, and he should have worded it differently.

My only exposure to Rihanna was in New York at a Barnes & Noble….her limo pulled up and the store was suddenly shut down….I wasn’t angry with her but I was furious at B&N…I had a plane to catch and needed something from the store…lol.

My true thought though is that Rihanna & Nieva should definitely have parted ways…the product & the superstar does not match up, period.

  • catca

That one person who came in was the CEO who’s job is the company’s strategy, i.e. views. So yes, a company can change their views when a new CEO comes in. I assume she wasn’t under a long term contract and he and Nivea have the right to choose not to renew it. Having said that, I do think it was unprofessional to speak negatively about Rihanna to the press. And while Rihanna has sexed up her image lately, I don’t see sexiness as being in conflict with trust, reliability or families to be perfectly frank. But that’s for the CEO to decide. My only qualm with him is he could have done this quietly.

  • catca

Nivea didn’t sponsor either Madonna or Lady Gaga, you do realize that kindof negates your point, right? Not to mention you are playing the race card while making racist accusations against Germans. Bit hypocritical, aren’t you.

“The blacks?” Really? Are you classified as “the whites?” I don’t understand why issues like these always comes down to a racial matter. When I heard about it I didn’t say it was because she’s black. I said I don’t blame the company because her behavior is “R” and “X” rated at times and, it is inconsistent with the behavior they want displayed by a person representing their product – case closed. You @Lalala need to stop making what some people of a certain race does out of something and assuming that all people of that same race does it, thinks it or says it. Opinions are opinions, freedom of speech is as well and both have my respect; say what you think you need to say but, you really need to think about what you say before you say/type it and if you did, you should be concerned.

  • Kaylee

Please stop with your bitter black person comment. It’s always about race with you people. I love Rihanna, but I’m sure they didn’t think that her image aligned with their new marketing plans. It has nothing to do with her being black geez

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4O2M2FMUPR7RSYZR22L2RW4DK4 Andrew

she’s not too sexy, she has become to controversial. This has nothing to do with her ex either. She needs to remember when she goes out, to wear underwear and that her clothes don’t say anything offensive.
