Rihanna on Chris Brown: “I’m Going To Do What I Want to Do”

Rihanna doesn’t care what people think about her rekindled friendship with Chris Brown.

“I respect what other people have to say. The bottom line is that everyone thinks differently. It’s very hard for me to accept, but I get it,” the pop star says in Elle’s May issue.

She continues, “People end up wasting their time on the blogs or whatever, ranting away, and that’s all right. I don’t hate them for it. Because tomorrow I’m still going to be the same person. I’m still going to do what I want to do.”

The former couple, who recently reunited in the recording studio, split in 2009 after Brown assaulted her during a pre-Grammys dispute.

The dramatic breakup, and the media attention surrounding it, “gave me guns,” Rihanna says.

She adds, “I was like, well, f**k. They know more about me than I want them to know. It’s embarrassing.”

“But that was my opening. That was my liberation, my moment of bring it,” the singer continues. “I wanted people to know who I am. Whatever they take that to be, good or bad, I just want them to know the truth.”

Rihanna goes on to explain that, the way she sees it, she “has more freedom the more people know about me.”

“It’s like, one less skeleton in the closet, one less burden, one less secret,” she says. “Now you know that, so you can say what you want about it. I don’t have anything to hide.”

    Good for Rihanna. Being able to forgive and move on is a great thing. People are always going to have something to say about how other people live their lives. That’s why u should live your life for you and who cares what other people say. Last time I checked no one is perfect, even those who like to pretend they are

    The comments that I have read are NOT just negativity……they are warnings probably from people who know a little (or a lot) about abuse. They are a word to Rihanna that we hope she will listen to. However, from what I have heard, she will just keep “doing what she wants” until it is too late. Get a clue Rihanna. And please try to see that it is not judgmental if you are trying to save someone’s life.

    I think as my late husband used to say being stupid and stubborn. Okay that was his way of saying obstinate. But isn’t obstinate just a different way of saying holding on your beliefs no matter how little sense they make. Its like I’m saying.

    She never said they’re getting back together they’re just going to be friends. You guys are talking about this as if you know her personally and know the extent of her abuse. As far as we know he hit her once,and by no means am I condoning that or defending him because it is NEVER ok for a man to hit a woman. But it’s her decision as to whether she can be friends with him now. Clearly she feels she is ready to take that step and that is for her to decide, not for you randoms to sit on the internet and preach that you know abuse and she is wrong. Actually you’re wrong because you don’t know all abuse cases and I don’t think you’re Rihanna or one of her close friends/family or Chris Brown. She’ll find out if this was a bad decision or not, in the mean time most of you need to get off your high horses.

    Rihanna is a sad, insecure little girl trying so hard to be tough. If she really does not care what others think, than why the constant twitter pictures? With all the money she makes, she needs to have a licensed therapist as part of her entourage. She has become so “ghetto” it is pathetic. At least Tupac was intelligent & political. ‘Thug Life” meant something for him. Obviously the trauma of her assault being public has affected her. She should in my opinion take a break, get an education, read some books, hang out with some real feminists and familiarize herself with Angela Davis!
