Rihanna Hosts Inaugural Diamond Ball, Brad Pitt Gives Hilarious Speech (VIDEO)
Rihanna hosted her inaugural Diamond Ball on Thursday, bringing out everyone from Brad Pitt to Kim Kardashian. The singer’s glamorous gala took place at The Vineyard in Beverly Hills. Check out the photos and videos below!
The black-tie event was first announced last month as a benefit for the Clara Lionel Foundation, which is named after Rihanna’s grandparents Clara and Lionel Braithwaite. The organization, founded in 2012, supports education and arts programs around the world. Approximately 600 guests attended, including Salma Hayek, Jimmy Kimmel, Ellen Pompeo, Chris Ivery, Kris Jenner, Tia Mowry, Tyrese, Ne-Yo and other famous folks.
Rihanna welcomed guests by explaining how her grandparents inspired her to give back, and proudly pointed out her grandfather in the crowd. The evening included a charity auction, where four VIP tickets to an upcoming Kanye West tour went for $74,000, while Hayek reportedly paid $190,000 for Damien Hirst artwork.
Rihanna also took the stage to perform, and was even backed by an orchestra. She was introduced by Pitt, who deemed her a “female phenom, cultural icon, provocateur, advocate.” The actor then went on to joke that Rihanna hasn’t done enough with her career. “Rihanna, sadly, has had only 13 number one singles, only 54 million albums sold, only seven Grammys, 11 Billboard Awards. She has only 90 million Facebook fans, 40 million Twitter followers, and she’s only made Time magazine Most Influential 100 list once,” said Pitt. He continued, “And with the millions of people in the world, she’s only managed to help a few hundred million or so have a better life.”
Pitt quipped that the evening was not just a fundraiser, but also an “intervention,” and showed a photoshopped picture of Rihanna overweight and stuffing herself with sandwiches. “I ask that we stand together by her side and show her our support and our love and say to her the hard words, ‘Rihanna put down that sandwich, get off your ass and do something. God damn it, just do something with your life,'” Pitt amusingly said.
Naturally, Rihanna performed “Diamonds,” among other hits, and Big Sean was brought out as a surprise performer. Check out the photos and videos below!
