Rihanna Breaks Michael Jackson Record
Rihanna and Jackson were previously tied with 13 number one Hot 100 singles each. But Billboard announced on Monday that the songstress’ latest track, “Workm” just went to the top of the chart. That gives her 14 number one songs, edging out Jackson.
Rihanna remains behind Mariah Carey, who has 18, and The Beatles. The iconic group still holds the record for the most number one Hot 100 singles of all time with 20. Interestingly, this is only the second number one for “Work” collaborator Drake, who scored his only previous one for their first duet, “What’s My Name,” in 2010.
While Rihanna hasn’t specifically mentioned taking Jackson’s spot on the all-time list, she did tweet on Monday afternoon, “#WORK tops Billboard #Hot100!! Navy you killed it this week!” “Navy,” of course,” refers to the nickname for Rihanna’s passionate fan base.
The news of Rihanna’s latest chart-topping success comes just hours after she and Drake premiered not one, but two videos for “Work.” As Gossip Cop reported earlier, the first version had the stars getting down and dirty at a club, while the second depicted a sensual living room hookup. Add all this to the fact that it was Rihanna’s birthday on Saturday, and, well, she clearly has a lot to celebrate right now.
