“Ride Along 2” Speeds To Box Office Holiday Weekend Win
Ride Along 2 has sped to the top of the box office, while putting the brakes on Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ month-long dominance. Kevin Hart and Ice Cube’s Ride Along 2, a sequel to the 2014 original film, took first place for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend with a take of $39.5 million.
Coming in second place was The Revenant. It earned $35 million, which was enough to edge out The Force Awakens, which dropped down to third with $31 million. 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi and the Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell movie Daddy’s Home secured fourth and fifth places with $19 million and $11.5 million, respectively.
Rounding out the Top 10 for the holiday weekend were the animated kids’ film Norm Of The North in sixth place with $8.7 million, while The Forest nabbed the seventh position with $6.5 million. Earning the eighth spot was The Big Short with $6.3 million. Sisters came in ninth place with $5 million. And just making the Top 10 was The Hateful Eight in the last position with $4.2 million.
