Reese Witherspoon Python Bag is Hiss-tory

Reese Witherspoon will stop carrying her python handbag after PETA notified her that the snakeskin material is illegal in California.

The animal rights advocacy group tells Gossip Cop that they rushed a video exposé of the exotic-skins industry to Witherspoon, and that the actress has informed them she’ll be dumping the purse (pictured below).

“We’ve long known Reese to be a kind person, so we’re pleased – and not surprised – that she is hanging up her python bag for good,” PETA says in a statement. “We hope Reese’s honest mistake will serve as a reminder for all of us to be extra-certain that what we’re buying is mock croc or fake snake.”

As a token of their appreciation, PETA says they’re sending Witherspoon flowers.

A source close to Witherspoon tells Gossip Cop she bought the Chloe purse at a store and had no reason to think python products were illegal in California.

    The snakes that made the bag are already dead, so what’s the point in not using it any longer? It’s not like she’s influencing the general public to buy it, because most people probably can’t afford it anyway.

    Actually the snakes are hunted for these bags. Pythons are not venomous. They will hide out. Humans go out of their way to get the snakes to sell. I never got the point of python handbags.

    I agree. I’m 100% for animal rights and treating animals well but PETA take it way too far most of the time. The way they handle these issues generate this backlash against people who stand up for animals and it doesn’t help the cause at all.

    I wish I felt sorry for the snakes…I know they are not venomous but I still don’t particularly care for them! They are already dead so Its kinda pointless. If they were a cute animal I would totally agree with Peta makes me a huge hypocrite I know, I know. Totally against wearing animal fur but snake skin really doesn’t bother me…. sorry!!
