Redskins Fan Attends Game In “Redface” And Native American Wig (PHOTOS)
A Washington Redskins fan went to Thursday’s game against the Giants at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey painted in “redface” and wearing a braided wig with a feather attached, mocking Native Americans. Photos of the man have been making the rounds on social media and are causing quite the stir. See the pictures below.
As Gossip Cop has reported, the Redskins have been embroiled in controversy over the past few years because of the team’s name, which many have deemed offensive to Native Americans. An Instagram user who snapped a photo of the Redskins fan posted it to his account, along with the caption, “This jerk in ‘Redface’ is proof positive that the Redskins need to change their name immediately.” Additional pictures from various angles have also cropped up on Twitter.
As Gossip Cop previously noted, Matthew McConaughey weighed in last year about the Redskins name, stating, “We were all fine with it since the 1930s, and all of a sudden we go, ‘No, gotta change it’?” President Obama has also commented on the subject, explaining that while he doesn’t believe Redskins fans intend to offend anyone with their attachment to the team’s name, Native Americans’ sensitivity to the term should still be considered.
It should be noted that the New York Giants defeated the Redskins on Thursday, so presumably the fan was red in the face in more ways than one. See the photos below of the fan wearing “redface,” and tell Gossip Cop what you think about the latest Washington Redskins controversy.
