Redmond O’Neal, the troubled son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal, dodged jail today after pleading no contest to felony gun and heroin possession.

An L.A. Superior Court judge ordered O’Neal to spend one year in rehab and placed him on five years of probation.

O’Neal was arrested on August 2 after he failed to stop for a red arrow signal in Santa Monica. Police found heroin, marijuana and a gun in his possession.

Ryan O’Neal was in the courtroom for his son’s sentencing.

I applaud the judge for not sending him to prison where he wouldn’t get the help he needs. I hope a year in rehab will turn his life around.

What I don’t understand is why these paparazzo don’t get stopped for running red lights and arrow signals, chasing after celebs endangering their lives and others. Yet they would catch a celeb in a minute… not that I am saying that Redmond O’Neal wasn’t in the wrong. There should be equal enforcement laws for all. I know people that act out their troubles like that after a close relative dies. I know that what he is doing is wrong, but sometimes they don’t care because they feel so much hurt inside, especially when they feel that there isn’t anyone they could confide in. I hope that rehab helps him.

Redmond has been doing drugs and getting into trouble WAY BEFORE his mother died. And what does the papparazzi have to do with that anyway??? Sadly he will probably end up like all the others who cannot give up drugs.

It must be nice to be pseudo-famous, come from money, and white. When he got busted with his dad for methamphetamines he was on probation. I’m all for rehabilitation, but there is a huge double standard that disproportionately inprisons poor people, but also blacks and hispanics. HE HAD A GUN AND HEROIN, AND A RECORD OF DOING DUMB SHIT, HE SHOULD GO TO JAIL.
