Rebecca Black: “I Don’t Want to Be Known as the ‘Friday’ Girl”
11:58 am, April 25th, 2011
Rebecca Black has gained huge – and largely negative – media attention for her music video “Friday,” but she’s not letting the ridicule stop her from realizing her dreams of becoming a real singer.
“I don’t want to be known as the ‘Friday’ girl,” Black says in an interview with the Associated Press. “Hopefully, I can be known as Rebecca Black and not the `Friday’ girl. I want to be a performing artist. That’s what I’ve always wanted to do.”
The thirteen-year-old acknowledges the many artistic flaws of the video, which recently passed 100 million views on YouTube, saying, “People think I sound like a robot, and in that video, I do sound like a robot.”
But Black confidently thinks she has what it takes to become a true artist, and apparently, she’s not alone.
The teen has scored a record deal, and is currently recording with Charlton Pettus, a music producer who has worked with such singers as Hilary Duff and Clay Aiken.
Gossip Cop will keep you posted on Black’s budding career.
