Reading Rainbow Kickstarter Reaches $1 Million Goal in Less Than a Day (VIDEO)
LeVar Burton’s Kickstarter campaign to revive the beloved children’s series “Reading Rainbow” reached its $1 million goal in less than a day.
Hours after the fundraiser launched, more than 25,000 donors had contributed more than $1,100,000 in hopes of bringing the literacy-teaching program to 1,500 classrooms free of charge.
Three backers even pledged a whopping $10,000 each.
Even though the goal has been met, the campaign will continue until July 2, potentially helping Burton and his team reach their “stretch goals.”
“Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that we would reach our goal on the very first day,” the actor tells Deadline. “People are getting involved — it’s been pretty overwhelming. ”
“Reading Rainbow,” which originally debuted on PBS in 1983, won 26 Emmys before its cancellation in 2006, with reruns continuing to air until 2009.
