Rachel Lindsay was officially announced on Monday as the first black star of “The Bachelorette,” and now fans are reacting to the news. See reaction tweets below.

Mike Fleiss, producer of “The Bachelor” franchise, recently teased a “historic” announcement on Twitter, and then cryptically said it didn’t actually have to do with “The Bachelor.” Thanks to blogger Reality Steve, it leaked early Monday morning that Fleiss had been referring to picking Lindsay as not only the next bachelorette, but the first black woman to lead the reality competition. The decision was made official on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Monday night, where Lindsay was interviewed by the talk show host.

Lindsay is currently appearing on Nick Viall’s season of “The Bachelor,” but obviously is not the woman with whom he chooses to get engaged. And now the Dallas lawyer will get to set off on her own journey for love, with “The Bachelorette” set to film this spring and air in the summer. Lindsay follows JoJo Fletcher, who became engaged to Jordan Rodgers on season 12 of the ABC show last year.

Fan are now sharing their reaction to Lindsay’s casting on Twitter. One Twitter user said, “Just saw that there’s gonna be a black Bachelorette and I GOT CHILLS.” Another expressed, “Yes! I’m so excited that Rachel is the new #TheBachelorette. An African American attorney, its about time!” Another tweeted, “Yaassss! I love her. Lawyers are the best! #blackfemalelawyer #LoveandLaw #TheBachelorette.” “Rachel is the next bachelorette? Honestly gonna be the best season yet #TheBachelor #TheBachelorette,” one user offered. Gossip Cop will continue to update as more fans react to Rachel Lindsay being officially announced as the first black star of “The Bachelorette.”
