Raven-Symone: Harriet Tubman Should Not Be On The $20 Bill (VIDEO)
Raven-Symone doesn’t think abolitionist Harriet Tubman should be the new face of the $20 bill. The former Disney star made her controversial comment during Wednesday’s episode of “The View” while filling in for moderator Whoopi Goldberg. See the video below.
Recently, Americans were polled to see whose face they wanted to see replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. The poll came down to four finalists: Tubman, former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt, Civil Rights leader Rosa Parks, and former Cherokee Nation chief Wilma Mankiller. So far, Tubman is in the lead.
While discussing the choices, “The View” co-host Nicolle Wallace said she thought Tubman was a good choice, but Symone disagreed. “No offense to everyone that’s going to be mad at me for saying this… I don’t like that idea,” expressed Symone, adding, “I think we need to move a little bit more forward. Yes, I understand, let me just preface that I understand the history, I get it, trust me, I was taught, I’m in that culture.”
Symone went on to explain that she thought Parks should be the new face of the $20 bill because she’s “closer to the progression that we’re doing now.” She continued, “You have to understand history so you don’t repeat it, but that doesn’t really happen in our world because we still repeat history of hating other cultures over and over again. I would choose a different one, no offense.” Check out Raven-Symone’s comments in the video below around the 9-minute mark, and tell us what you think.
