Ralph Waite of The Waltons Dead at 85
Ralph Waite is dead.
“The Waltons” patriarch passed away on Thursday at age 85 in Palm Desert, California.
Waite starred on the hit CBS show for nine seasons in the 1970s, followed by a series of television movies.
The Emmy-nominated actor is also known for Cool Hand Luke, Five Easy Pieces, “Days of Our Lives,” “Carnivale,” and dozens more television and film roles.
He most recently appeared in “NCIS” and “Bones.”
A former Marine Corps member, Waite ran unsuccessfully for Congress three times in the 1990s in California.
Thrice married, Waite is predeceased by one of his daughters, and survived by his third wife, two daughters, and stepson.
