Rachel Roy Denies Jay Z Cheating Rumors: Beyonce “Becky” Song Not About Me
Rachel Roy is denying she’s the “Becky with the good hair” who Beyonce references in the song “Sorry” on her new album Lemonade, which alludes to Jay Z cheated on her. Despite the speculation, Roy insists there’s “no truth” to her rumored affair with the rapper.
As Gossip Cop reported, a lyric from one of Beyonce’s new songs describes a man who was unfaithful with a woman known as “Becky with the good hair.” Shortly after the track was released, Roy posted on her Instagram on Sunday, “Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always. live in the light #nodramaqueens.”
Many of Beyonce’s fans began slamming Roy over what they perceived as a snarky admission of guilt, to the point that the fashion designer made her Instagram page private. Following all of the negative comments aimed at her, Roy tweeted, “I respect love, marriages, families and strength. What shouldn’t be tolerated by anyone, no matter what, is bullying, of any kind.”
Now two days later, Roy tells People, “I want to put the speculation and rumors to rest. My Instagram post was meant to be fun and lighthearted, it was misunderstood as something other than that. There is no validity to the idea that the song references me personally. There is no truth to the rumors.”
She continues, “Consequently, online haters have targeted me and my daughters in a hurtful and scary manner, including physical threats. As a mother — and I know many mothers would agree — I feel that bullying in any form is harmful and unacceptable. I would hope that the media sees the real issue here — the issue of cyber bullying — and how it should not be tolerated by anyone.”
As Gossip Cop noted on Monday, Beyonce’s “Beyhive” members have been leaving disparaging comments on the Instagram belonging to Roy’s teenaged daughter. They’ve also since started going after Rita Ora, believing she could be possibly be the “Becky” in question. Beyonce herself has not commented on the speculation, nor has Jay Z.
