Rachel Dolezal: “I Cried” Over Caitlyn Jenner’s Transition (VIDEO)
Rachel Dolezal says she “cried” while reading about Caitlyn Jenner’s transition because she “resonated” with the identity struggle. Watch below.
As Gossip Cop has reported, Dolezal is the now-former president of the NAACP Spokane chapter, who resigned earlier this week after her parents outed her as white and it was revealed she had been passing herself off as black for years. Dolezal has largely defended herself, saying she “identifies as black,” and some have compared the situation to Jenner being transgender. Formerly known as Bruce Jenner, she announced earlier this year that she identified as female, and made her debut as a woman in Vanity Fair earlier this month.
In an interview broadcast on Wednesday’s “Today Show,” Savannah Guthrie brought up the transgender community, and “how you can feel one way inside and your body may not match that,” and asked Dolezal if this is “something like that. “I hadn’t necessarily thought about it like that,” she replied, “but just yesterday I finally had a chance to read Caitlyn Jenner’s piece in the magazine, and I cried.”
“I cried because I resonated with some of the themes of isolation, of being misunderstood,” she continued. Dolezal teared up, and went on to reveal she’s bisexual, with race further complicating her personal relationships. Guthrie wondered if Dolezal feels “under siege,” and she responded, “Yes, definitely.”
As Gossip Cop previously noted, celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg have also argued that there’s a correlation between Dolezal and Jenner’s identity issues. She said on Tuesday’s “The View,” “I have to believe she feels the way she feels just like Caitlyn Jenner feels like she’s a woman.” And Power 105 personality Charlamagne Tha God last week wondered why people were being accepting of Jenner and not Dolezal.
