Rachel Dolezal Slammed For Racial Identity Book Plans (VIDEO)
Rachel Dolezal, the controversial former NAACP leader who identifies as black but was born white, announced plans to write a book on racial identity. The ex-head of the NAACP Spokane, Washington chapter is now once again getting slammed. See what Twitter users have to say about Dolezal’s proposed book below.
Dolezal revealed her book deal on “Today” on Tuesday, telling Savannah Guthrie, “I’ve heard a lot of stories from people around the world about their lives being somehow caught between boundary lines of race or culture or ethnicity. [It’s about] this larger issue of if you don’t fit into one box and if you don’t stay there your whole life, being identified from birth as who you are — what does that look like?” She also said that she has a TED Talk coming up. “I’m really excited to write the book and get into addressing some of the issues I’ve researched for many years, and I hope to eventually get back to teaching,” Dolezal went on. “I have some speaking engagements coming up. I just did a TED Talk that will be online soon, so [I’m] just looking forward to getting back into racial and social justice work.
Dolezal quickly became a trending topic on Twitter following her announcement, as many on social media criticized her. NuffsaidNY joked, “Rachel Dolezal should eat a Snickers. She’s not herself right now.” RantingOwl shared her wish for Dolezal, tweeting, “I would buy Rachel Dolezal a horse just so she could ride it into the sunset. Just go. Please go.” User CrooklynMMA blasted, “Rachel Dolezal on ‘journey of self-discovery.’ The set of b*lls on her is gargantuan. Got a book deal too. Paid to talk about her fraudery.”
BraveArcanine joked that Dolezal’s real plan is to hit Broadway. “What if this whole thing is Rachel Dolezal’s long game plan to audition for Hamilton,” he tweeted. User Susiemcdonnell announced she is taking the Dolezal approach to her age. “Much like Rachel Dolezal, I self-identify as 30,” she snarked. AprilTara similarly said, “Rachel Dolezal says ‘I identify as Black.’ I identify as tall and thin but I’m not gonna wake up tomorrow and be either of those.” And user ComedianTheDA was curious where he might find the planned book, tweeting, “I am assuming it will be available in the FICTION section?”
A publisher and release date for Dolezal’s book have yet to be announced. Watch Dolezal’s “Today” video interview below.
