Quvenzhane Wallis is at the center of an Oscars controversy after satirical outlet The Onion called her the C-word in a tweet.

The offensive message about the 9-year-old Best Actress nominee, cast as Annie earlier in the day, was posted during the Academy Awards and pulled down amid backlash.

The Onion’s “joke” read: “Everyone else seems afraid to say it, but that Quvenzhané Wallis is kind of a c**t, right?”

Wow.

It was retweeted hundreds of times before the outlet deleted it.

    Who is this Onion? I would like to know so that I will avoid him/her for the rest of my life. I have a very low opinion of that “thing”. It’s getting pretty bad with respect for children in the USA. Their pictures are taken without permission and scrutinized in tabloids, murdered, and called names in the USA. That goes to show what the USA has become. She is just a child and that’s it. She probably doesn’t even know what he/she/it is saying… that’s the good part about it.

    Cannot believe it! This girl is a major talent and will only get better! She is a beautiful girl with a really cute personality, and she was wonderful in Beasts of the Southern Wild. Why on earth would some idiot say such a terrible thing about this child. Whoever it is should be totally ashamed of themselves.
