Queen Elizabeth NOT Dead, Despite Twitter Hoax
Queen Elizabeth is NOT dead, despite a Twitter hoax leading many people to believe the 90-year-old royal had passed away. Gossip Cop can confirm that the Queen is alive and well.
On Thursday, a fake BBC News account tweeted, “BREAKING: Buckingham Palace announces the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 90. Circumstances are unknown. More to follow.” The Twitter account featured a BBC News logo to trick people into believing it was actually the British news outlet, but the handle on the account is @BBCNewsUKI, while the actual network is @BBCNewsUK.
The fake BBC account has since been suspended, but not before causing mass confusion on social media. Many users were tweeting condolences to the royal family, while others were expressing shock. But with the recent onslaught of fake news, many other people were questioning the validity of the report. Gossip Cop can confirm that the tweet is fake. We’re assured by a reliable source that Queen Elizabeth has not passed away.
Online death hoaxes have become a major problem that Gossip Cop has been working to fix. In the past few months alone, we busted false stories wrongly reporting the so-called “deaths” of Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Tony Hawk, Jaden Smith, Cormac McCarthy and Jack Black. All of the aforementioned celebrities are alive and well, as is Queen Elizabeth.
