“American Idol” revealed the Top 10… plus one… for season 14 on Thursday. What happened? Well, there was a huge shocker at the end when the judges chose to save a contestant from elimination. Get all the details and see the crazy video here!

As Gossip Cop reported, the FOX music competition has a new format for the live shows this year, with a once-a-week broadcast that combines both results from the previous week with new performances that will determine the next week’s results. The Top 11 performed last Thursday, with Tyanna Jones among the standouts. Now on tonight’s broadcast, host Ryan Seacrest revealed who received enough votes following that installment to make the elite Top 10.

After being declared safe, contestants took the stage to perform a new song for the night’s Movies theme. The lone contestant whose name wasn’t called by the end of the show was revealed to be the one in jeopardy after receiving the lowest amount of votes for last week. And that person was Qassim Middleton.

Middleton then had the chance to win the judges’ save, the only one of the season, with a performance of “Come Together,” the song he would’ve performed earlier in the show had he been declared safe. His performance was characteristically intense, and had him up in the judges’ faces before dramatically knocking down his mic stand at the end. Everyone seemed in awe, and Harry Connick Jr. even declared, “That was arguably the best performance of the night. So let’s get that out of the way.”

Connick then said, “Unfortunately, we have to talk about the issue of the save. We get one save,” and pointed out that each week they’ve been telling Middleton that he’s been focusing too much on the theatrical aspect of his performances, instead of his vocals. But tonight, he mastered both well enough to WIN THE SAVE!

That means Middleton gets to stick around for another week, along with the would-be Top 10: Adanna Duru, Daniel Seavey, Rayvon Owens, Nick Fradiani, Joey Cook, Tyanna Jones, Quentin Alexander, Maddie Walker, Clark Beckham, and Jax. Now there will be a DOUBLE elimination next week, and the season will go from the Top 11 straight to the Top 9. What do you think of the judges using their save so early on in the live episodes? Did Middleton deserve it?
