Qaasim Middleton “I Wish” American Idol Video: Contestant “Explodes” In Best Performance — WATCH HERE!
Qaasim Middleton proved he’s exactly what the “American Idol” judges are looking for on Wednesday’s show with an intense performance of “I Wish.” Watch below!
The quirky performer, whose mom infamously told the cameras before his audition that the 18-year-old is a virgin, found out he was one of the eight men left in the season 14 competition during Wednesday’s showcase at the Fillmore in Detroit. He showed why viewers voted him in with a theatrical performance of Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish” that didn’t lack for anything.
Keith Urban exclaimed afterward, “So good man! It was so good!” The country superstar wanted to say so much, but he feared he’d run out of time, and told Middleton, “Watching you in front of an audience is what it’s all about. The fact that we saw this in the audition is one thing. In front of an audience you explode.”
Jennifer Lopez declared, “You so damn funky, it’s crazy… You own that stage.” But when the singer said Middleton needed to focus more on his vocals than performance style, Harry Connick Jr. outright disagreed. “I didn’t hear you lose the vocal at all actually,” he told Middleton. “It was extremely good. Every run was right on the money.”
Connick went on to give the highest praise, saying, “The question we always get asked is: ‘What are we looking for?’ That’s what we’re looking for.” Check out the full video below!
