American Idol Contestant Qaasim Middleton’s Mom Reveals His Virginity Before Awesome Beatbox Audition (VIDEO)
Qaasim Middleton’s audition on Thursday’s “American Idol” started off quite embarrassingly, but he went on to have the last laugh. Check out the videos below!
The 18-year-old shared his backstory, revealing that his parents are “very musical,” with his dad even a former Stomp! cast member and his mom the first black woman to win Miss Mississippi. Said mother then joined Middleton, compared him to Michael Jackson, and asked him, “Did you tell them you’re still a virgin?” The contestant’s reaction was priceless, particularly as his mom went on to tell the camera, “He still wears his purity ring.”
Thankfully, Middleton’s sex life wasn’t the topic in front of the judges. Instead, they were impressed to hear the teen was going to college for jazz and contemporary music, and then blown away by his take on Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke,” which combined straight R&B singing, falsetto, beatboxing and some sweet dance moves.
“That was so fun,” Harry Connick Jr. told Middleton afterward. “This is not your world, and you did really, really well.” He went on to praise the contestant for showing “a little bit of everything,” calling him “smart” and commending him for auditioning while pursuing a music education. Jennifer Lopez said, “I gotta say I loved it. You showed me you have some real vocal talent and things you can do with your voice.”
“American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert was sitting in for Keith Urban, and agreed with his c0panelists’ sentiments. “I can’t wait to see what you can do when you have an arrangement and some rehearsal.” Middleton previously appeared on “The Naked Brothers Band.” Watch the full audition video below.
