#ProjectHome: One Direction Fans Push For “Home” To Be New Single (VIDEO)
One Direction fans are pushing for “Home” to be an unofficial new single with a campaign called “#ProjectHome.”
The initiative kicked off on Saturday, with Directioners sending hundreds of thousands of tweets using the hashtag. The grassroots push entails promoting the song on social media, streaming it on Spotify, and calling up radio stations in hopes they’ll play it. “Home,” which was co-written by Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson, is a bonus track from the special Japanese edition of the group’s last album, Made In The A.M.
It was also released last year as a promotional single for the record, tied to the official single, “Perfect.” It actually made it on to the Billboard charts, going to 74 on the Hot 100 and all the way to 16 on the Digital Songs list. But now fans are trying to give “Home” some extra attention.
Over the next month, Directioners will be working to see if they can get “Home” to actually top the charts without the band’s actual involvement. A similar effort was made for the song “No Control” last year, with Tomlinson later revealing how touched he was by the movement, which led the group to start performing the song more often. One fan now tweeted, “if we could do the same thing with no control we can do something bigger with home bc we are legends.”
