WATCH: Newsweek Wanted to Make Princess Diana a “Time Traveler”
12:19 pm, June 29th, 2011
VIDEONewsweek editor Tina Brown is responding to the controversy around her decision to photoshop Princess Diana onto the magazine’s cover (alongside Duchess Kate) for a story speculating about what the late princess’ life would be like in 2011.
While admitting on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that some people “think it’s kind of spooky,” Brown emphasizes the enormous publicity the cover has triggered online.
“It went absolutely viral,” she notes.
Brown explains that the best way to communicate what it would be like to have Diana around today was to show her next to her daughter-in-law, and to give her things like Facebook and Twitter accounts.
“I wanted to make her a time traveler,” explains Brown.
