Prince William and Kate met Hollywood royalty last night.

Kate, dressed in a lilac-colored Alexander McQueen gown, and Prince William, sporting black tie, arrived shortly after 8 p.m. at the recently renovated Belasco theater in L.A. for the inaugural “BAFTA Brits to Watch” gala, an event to introduce 42 emerging British actors, writers and other creative types to Hollywood’s top talent and decision makers.

Prince William, who serves as the president of BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts), joked at the gala dinner, ”I would like to thank Colin Firth for my perfect opening line — I have a voice,” referring to the famous line from The King’s Speech about Britain’s King George VI, the prince’s great-grandfather.

William added, “When American and British creative talent gets together, magic happens. Let’s continue the winning formula.”

Seated at Prince William and Kate’s table were Barbra Streisand and James Brolin, Nicole Kidman, and a number of studio executives.

Also at the event were Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Jennifer Lopez, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner, Blake Lively, Paul Rudd, Dana Delany, Jack Black, Elizabeth Banks, Chris Evans, and Jonah Hill.
