The Taliban is threatening to kidnap or assassinate Prince Harry while he’s in Afghanistan for a four-month combat tour.

The Apache helicopter pilot, who’s fighting Taliban insurgents on the front lines, has been targeted by the militant organization, spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tells Reuters.

Mujahid says, “We are using all our strength to get rid of him, either by killing or kidnapping.”

He added, “We have informed our commanders in Helmand to do whatever they can to eliminate him” in a plan referred to as the “Harry operations.”

Gossip Cop has reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment on the threats.

They do realize that this will start a war right? I would think that the Windsors would order him back but then it would seem that the Taliban would get what they want. I’m wondering how this will play out.

  • really?

whiy would he tell of their plan if not just to piss people off?

  • tom

You do realize that they are in a war, right. The last time he went there was also a specific threat made and they did not call him back. Not sure why the Windsors would call him back, they knew that there is always risk involved. This is not going to play out. Every thing will just keep going on the way it would if there were no threat.

I hope that now this has been said they will rethink sending him over there. I think it was a mistake to announce that they were sending him in the first place. If this was done by the PR people that the royal family uses, then I think they should get new PR people because they put this young man’s LIFE in jeopardy when they announced this. Why not let him be deployed and NOT announce it so that this young man would really be in no more danger than other soldiers. The last time they found out that they (the ones we are fighting) found out he was deployed in their country he was IMMEDIATLEY sent home to England.

  • D. Martin

Tom – I thought the allied troupes were pulling out of that area. Is that not right?

  • patty

PLEASE! get him out of there. They will do it. Please! Get him out!

  • Peggy

He’s a soldier. That’s the career he’s chosen. He and his family know the risks. I’m sure they discussed how things were handles the last time.

  • Lori

Anyone who didn’t see this coming is really out of touch. I can’t imagine why they announced that he was going, to include his location. They put a target squarely on his head, and increased the threat level for all of the men who work with/for him. Killing or capturing him would be a HUGE deal for the Taliban, because he is a member of the royal family, just as it would be if they were able to kill or capture any ranking government official. He’s a special situation, because he is a member of the royal family and a military member, but you can equate this to the US sending a member of Congress into the field and announcing it in advance. There is a reason those folks make unannounced visits…

  • Lori

Frankly, he is a much higher-value “target” than a regular officer, because he is a member of the royal family. Stating his location not only increases the danger for him, but for all of the men/women around him.

  • Usamed

It’s only to be expected. He is a royal, it would be the same for anyone who has a high position in goverment or is well known.

  • Brianna

They realize this will start a war??? Where do you think he is now??

  • Brianna

They have said that a thousand times, doesnt seem true.

  • D. Martin

Yeah I know…not one of my better moments. It’s just I thought they were pulling out of the area. That all the allied troupes were pulling out. Winding down. This would start everything back up and again and we’d be in it full force again.

This is why I believe that we shouldn’t have released his location, pictures of him, or even the fact that he was deployed, especially following Vegas.
For people who may not be aware, Bin Laden claimed one of the main reasons that he attached America was the Monica Lewinsky scandal, and Al Zawahiri said when he came to America for medical care, he was alarmed at how promiscuous young American women were. (provided, they found p*** in the Bin Laden compound, so who knows if this stuff is true) but considering the recent escapades in Vegas, this is all the more dangerous!
I wish Harry and his men well, and hope the Taliban can’t get to him. I believe they will try to kidnap him, to get something from the British commander and chief (conveniently his grandmother) to aid them in winning the war. They might be looking for British to pull out of the war, considering this has been one of their goals. This is frightening and upsetting, and I wish Harry and his men well! God bless!

  • Elizabeth

Maybe someone who understands more about the British military can help me out with this, but I just don’t understand why they would send him out into combat. Yes, he’s chosen to be a soldier, but he’s also third in line for the throne. That would be like the U.S. sending the president of the Senate to the front lines.

The kid’s got brass balls. Good on ‘im. We should be inspired by his courage.
