Prince Grammys Tribute Video: Watch Bruno Mars, The Time Grammy Awards Performance
The late Prince was honored with a special tribute at the 2017 Grammys on Sunday. Check out the video below.
As Gossip Cop has reported, Prince died last April at the age of 57. One of music’s biggest icons, he’s been remembered at the Billboard Music Awards, BET Awards, and the American Music Awards. But in all the time since his passing, fans have wondered how the Grammy Awards would pay tribute to such a legend.
It was only revealed days ago that the Grammys did, in fact, have something in the works for both Prince and George Michael, who died in December. But organizers declined to reveal any specific plans. Still, Recording Academy president Neil Portnow said in a statement, “George Michael and Prince were pop icons who showcased rare musical genius and otherworldly charisma. While each possessed a distinct style and sound, they were both adored by audiences worldwide.”
He added, “The passings of two such creative innovators were a huge loss for the creative community; the Recording Academy is humbled to pay homage to their tremendous legacies on the Grammy stage.” Prince was a seven-time Grammy winner, and the Recording Academy shared a statement in mourning after his death.
Now during the big night, Bruno Mars performed in Prince’s honor, after the singer’s former collaborators, Morris Day and The Time. Mars also performed “That’s What I Like” earlier in the night. Watch the tribute video below.
