Prince Cremated, Family And Friends Hold Private Memorial
Prince was cremated, and his family and friends celebrated his life in a private memorial on Saturday, the singer’s rep confirms to Gossip Cop. A musical celebration of his life is in the works, noted his rep. As we previously reported, Prince was found dead in his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota on Thursday morning. The legendary singer, who has received tributes non-stop since his passing, was 57.
In a statement to Gossip Cop on Saturday, Prince’s rep tells us, “A few hours ago, Prince was celebrated by a small group of his most beloved: family, friends and his musicians, in a private, beautiful ceremony to say a loving goodbye. Prince’s remains have been cremated and their final storage will remain private. We ask for your blessings and prayers of comfort for his family and close friends at this time.” The rep further stated, “The cause of death remains unknown and it will be at least four weeks before we receive the results of the autopsy.” “An announcement will be made at a future date for a musical celebration,” added Prince’s rep.
Though the autopsy was completed on Friday and, as mentioned, the results won’t be made public for around a month, it was reported that a week before his death, Prince allegedly overdosed on Percocet and needed to be administered an antidote shot. At the time, his rep claimed his private jet, which was en route from Georgia to Minnesota, made an emergency landing in Illinois because he was suffering from the flu.
Among those spotted on Saturday at the private ceremony were Prince’s sister Tyka Nelson, Mayte Garcia, Sheila E, and Chanhassen Mayor Denny Laufenburger. Gossip Cop will update as more information is made available.
