It’s usually Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony who do the singing, but Gossip Cop has learned that President Obama led a group of senators and congressmen yesterday in a rendition of “Happy Birthday” for Anthony, who turned 41.
On Wednesday, the couple began a whirlwind visit to Washington, DC, where they were first given a private tour of the White House, along with their 19-month-old children Emme and Max. Gossip Cop is told that while his parents spoke with Obama in the Oval Office, little Max amused himself by running wild around the White House.
Next stop for Lopez and Anthony was Capitol Hill, where they met with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and discussed education and the new Marc Anthony Scholarship Fund, which his rep told Gossip Cop was set up to “fund Latino students who want to pursue higher education.”
The celebrity couple met up again later in the evening with Obama at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s annual awards gala, where backstage before the president spoke, Obama led senators and members of congress in singing “Happy Birthday” to Anthony, who was honored at the event with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Lopez and Anthony were seated at the awards ceremony with Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, whom you may recall Gossip Cop exclusively reported was the guest of honor at a private dinner party the celebrity couple threw at their Long Island, New York home on August 17.
But the day didn’t end quite yet for the couple, who had already met with members of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches. After Anthony received his honor, Lopez had a small birthday celebration for her husband on the roof of the W Hotel.
Anthony’s rep told Gossip Cop, “Marc said he couldn’t have had a more perfect birthday.”
