Phillip Phillips Returns to American Idol, Performs New Single “Raging Fire” (VIDEO)
Phillip Phillips returned to “American Idol” on Thursday. The season 11 winner joined the results show to perform his new single, “Raging Fire,” live for the first time.
The song is the first to be released from Phillips’ upcoming second album, Beyond The Light, which is due to be released in May, right around the time “American Idol” has its season 13 finale.
Phillips has been one of the few “American Idol” winners to achieve success in recent years. After a string of champions whose careers failed to really go anywhere, Phillips has broken into the mainstream with his Dave Matthews-esque brand on folk rock.
Phillips is now best known for the wildly-popular (and catchy) songs “Home” and “Gone, Gone, Gone.” Both tracks are from his debut album album, The World From The Side Of The Moon, which peaked at number 4 on the Billboard 200. It eventually went platinum. Even more amazing, “Home” actually went platinum four times over.
Of course, it remains to be seen if Phillips will have the same kind of success with “Raging Fire” and Beyond The Light. Unfortunately, many new artists often have a sophomore slump. That said, he was fine form with his guitar here.
Hopefully the current season 13 contestants were paying attention!
