Phillip Phillips Gets The Only Standing Ovation During American Idol Finale

VIDEO

(Daily Motion)

Phillip Phillips made his final attempt at winning the “American Idol” crown on Tuesday.

During part one of the show’s season finale, the former pawn shop worker performed three songs: “Stand By Me,” Billy Joel‘s “Movin’ Out” and “Home.”

The judges gave the last song, Phillips’ first single if he wins, the only standing ovation of the night.

The singer’s performances were all the more remarkable as he has been plagued by health problems throughout the competition.

On Wednesday, either Phillips or Jessica Sanchez will be declared the 11th “Idol” winner.

Go buy Dave Mathews then. That’s all Philips is…. The poor mans Dave Mathews.

Phillip stole the night away–by a LONGGGGGGGG shot! His ‘single’ is AMAZING!!! It was the show stealer of the night! The judges were right to give him a standing ‘O’!

    Hater!

  • xlntsx

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed – but Phillip is the ONLY contestant who consistently acknowledges and thanks those on stage with him … great guy, great talent

  • American Idol2

Amazing? I wouldn’t call it all that…it was good, but not a standing ovation type of performance. He sounded mediocre.

  • Rjchmel

Philip Phillips uve been the one since day one!!

  • Iseemtobelost

sigh :( Philip is awesome,,,, tad reminiscent of Dave Mathews, sure… Destined for a while to get f$cked by the RIAA yes… the only actual musician on the show, yes again… Home was a great thing, he is the only non sellout of the bunch..

Sorry…I have to respectfully disagree, but I do respect your opinion. I honestly think the standing ovation was for him staying true to himself and who he wants to be as an artist, among his talent, musical capabilities, and awesome voice. As the judges have said all season long, it isn’t the powerfullness of ones voice that sells music, it’s the package as a whole. Like Jennifer told Jessica earlier in tonight’s show, as an artist, you have to be able to tell someone ‘no–this isn’t me or isn’t right for me and who I want to be as an artist’–what she failed to do, he accomplished all season–no questions asked, regardless of what it meant for him throughout the competition. He stayed true to himself, and he was awarded for it tonight. Let him live it up!

Soooo David Cook. The voice, the guitars…..nothing spectacular.

  • Iseemtobelost

Sooo david cook, I agree, David Cook sounds like everything on the radio at once. Philip, not so much….

Disclaimer: I certainly do not care but I read some of the stuff folks write here and you don’t have any idea what you are talking about even if its entirely subjective.

I found a discounted Dave Matthew’s Band CD recently and purchased it for $1.99. Money well spent. What concerns me though, is that Phillip Phillips CD will probably cost substantially more, making Dave Matthews the poor man’s Phillip Phillips.

  • Randomlibra

It’s American Idol. You are lucky to get ONE spectacular performance a season, and then the person who performed it get’s voted off.

Some people just have “it” and PPhillips does. Don’t get the Dave Matthews thing at all. NOT AT ALL. Agree he has never been a sellout on here. Jessica is so boring and honestly just can’t sing everything. Joshua was disgusting. Hope Phillips wins this.

Fabulous performance is all that needs said. Truly a message.

just downloaded Home from itunes LOVE IT

  • Phil Tanner

Phillip is AWESOME: talent, charisma, unique, individual. A man who knows himself and a guy who did it while undergoing the greatest pain a MAN can endure…kidney stones! It was a touching moment as he revealed his soul singing his encore performance, “Home”. I am so happy for this young man.

  • Phil Tanner

Way to go, Phillip: (Can’t wait for his CD/DVD and concert tour!!!)

  • ebgb4961

    Right on Lori!

  • Shades3

EXACTLY, xlntsx. Phillip is clearly used to playing with other people who make him look and sound even better than he would otherwise. One performance stands out for me in that regard, although he ALWAYS went over and thanked his sidemen. After “Disease” he walked over to his saxiphone player and helped her down from the perch she was on. Now, that’s courtesy. She was clearly touched by the gesture. This is a quintessential southern gentleman. Classy.
