Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh are among the conservatives rushing to defend Phil Robertson after A&E suspended him from “Duck Dynasty” for slamming gay people as sinners in GQ. Palin wrote on her Facebook page on Wednesday, “Free speech is an endangered species. Those ‘intolerants’ hatin’ and taking on the ‘Duck Dynasty’ patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us.”

Limbaugh similarly accused the network of impinging on Robertson’s right to free speech, saying on his syndicated radio show, “Who is being discriminated against here except Phil Robertson, who just lost a job because of his religious beliefs?” The political pundit added, “He ends up getting fired and GLAAD starts running around talking about, ‘We’re not gonna put up with this kind of discrimination.’ Well, then, you better start demanding he be rehired because he’s the only guy whose been discriminated against.”

Meanwhile, thousands of “Duck Dynasty” fans signed a petition called “IStandWithPhil” on Change.org to bring Robertson back on the show. In the celebrity realm, Seth Rogen also called out A&E, tweeting, “It’s strange that A&E hired a guy for being a backwoods redneck and then were surprised when he started talking like a backwoods redneck.”
