Pharrell was NOT punched by Jay Z, despite a report that speculates about the cause of Pharrell’s black eye. Gossip Cop can debunk the story. We’re told it’s “not true.”

According to MediaTakeOut, “Somebody PUTS HANDS [sic] On Pharrell… BLACKED HIS EYE… And The STREETS SAY… That It Might Have Been JAY Z!” Because if “the streets” say it, it must be true, right? Indeed, the webloid goes on to similarly write, “People are saying that Jay Z PUT HANDS on Pharrell Williams yesterday in Los Angeles.”

The site alleges there’s bad blood between the two music moguls because Pharrell worked out a deal with Apple instead of joining Jay Z’s Tidal. An “industry insider” is quoted as saying Jay Z “took it as a slap in the face for Pharrell to do that. Especially since Pharrell was one of the main people who came up with the idea for [Tidal].”

“Jay definitely wanted to SEE Pharrell, and have a face to face. I don’t know if Jay still is about that STREET LIFE… but Pharrell had a black eye last night,” continues MTO’s alleged “source.” And with Jay Z and Pharrell supposedly having a “meeting” in Los Angeles earlier this week, the webloid writes of “The Voice” coach’s bruised eye, “Now LOOK AT HIS FACE… Is It Just COINCIDENCE??”

Uh, yeah, it is. Apparently the doctors at MediaFakeOut are unaware that there are countless ways one can obtain a black eye, and many of them don’t involve fists flying. Pharrell’s rep tell Gossip Cop the webloid’s tall tale is “not true.” While it’s a little embarrassing and silly, Pharrell’s injury is actually the result of some kitchen hijinks with his wife, Helen Lasichanh, that led to a spatula smacking him in the face. Now that’s a sucker-punch to MediaTakeOut and its “people” on the “streets.”
