Pharrell showed his serious side on Thursday’s “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” when he steered the conversation towards women’s rights and the wage gap.

When DeGeneres called his album a tribute to women, the rapper agreed, saying that instantly knew he wanted to name it “G I R L.”

“First of all I have a huge affinity for them, but at the same time there is a lot of inequality with women,” he told the talk show host.

“What is it like 73 cents to a man’s dollar? Like what is that? The last I heard the only way this entire species can come into existence is through the portal of a woman’s body,” noted Pharrell.

He then moved the conversation to women’s rights.

“We have legislators and legislation in certain places that tell women what they can and cannot do with their bodies. How is that possible?” he said.

DeGeneres then toned down the political conversation by bringing up Pharrell’s infamous Vivienne Westwood hat — and gifting him a much taller version.
